We are delighted to share with you a new community initiative designed to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community called, ‘Live Life Get Active’ (LLGA), proudly supported by GenesisCare. LLGA is a national exercise and nutrition program co-founded by Olympian Jane Flemming OAM.

GenesisCare, providers of heart care and cancer care, have teamed up with LLGA to provide FREE exercise camps on the Fraser Coast (Bill Fraser Park) and in Bundaberg (Alexandra Park) starting at the end of April. Locals are encouraged to have fun whilst getting fit in the beautiful surroundings of the parks.

GenesisCare CEO – Dan Collins says “Our vision is transforming lives through treating the patient as a whole, not just the disease. The partnership with Live Life Get Active will see patients and their families directly linked into an exercise and nutrition program to enhance their health outcomes, reduce stress and measure success.”

Exercise is such an important part of a happy, healthy life. It has not only a positive effect on a person’s physical well-being but also their mental health,” said Jane Flemming OAM.

The camps are open to the whole community for free, and is a great opportunity to exercise with friends, meet new people and to have some fun!

World Sleep Day

World sleep day slogan

Today, Friday March 16, is World Sleep Day. Apart from making us all miss our beds, this day calls attention to the important issues surrounding sleep health.

It is estimated that 1.5 million (8.9%) of Australians suffer from sleep apnoea, insomnia or restless legs syndrome1.

The World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society therefore created this annual event to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society.

When diagnosing and managing patients who suffer from sleep health problems, it is vital that the most accurate tests are utilised.

There are two main tests available, overnight (in-lab) or home sleep studies.

Prioritise your sleep health in 2018

Getting enough good quality sleep is important for our health and wellbeing. When we are deprived of sleep it can affect our memory, mood, reaction times and quality of life. If you’re not sleeping well or show symptoms of sleep disorders, talk to your GP about booking a sleep study.

The common symptoms of sleep disorders are:

  • Loud snoring
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Irritability or mood changes
  • Depression
  • Restless sleep
  • Morning headaches
  • Poor concentration or memory
  • Drowsy driving
  • Passing urine frequently during the night
  • Impotence / loss of libido
